CROWNS

Dentists use crowns as a cosmetic restoration to strengthen a tooth or improve its shape. They most often use crowns for teeth that tooth decay, wear, or breakage partially destroys.

Dentists cement crowns onto an existing tooth and the crown fully covers the portion of your tooth above the gum line. The crown becomes your tooth’s new outer surface. Technicians can make crowns from porcelain, metal, or both. Dentists often prefer porcelain crowns because they mimic the translucency of natural teeth and are very strong.

Dentists need to use a crown or onlay (also called a partial crown) when the tooth is not strong enough to hold a filling. Unlike fillings where they apply the restorative material directly into your mouth, a dental lab creates a crown outside of your mouth. The lab creates your crown from your unique tooth impression which allows a dental technician to examine all aspects of your bite and jaw movements. The technician then sculpts your crown just for you so that your bite and jaw movements function normally once the dentist places the crown.

BRIDGES

A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face, and alleviate stress on your bite.

A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Your bridge can be made of gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials, and is bonded into surrounding teeth for support.

The success of any bridge depends on its foundation – the other teeth, gums, or bone to which it is attached. Therefore, it is very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook!
